Love and Life

The day before I left Thailand, I got a new tattoo. It’s small, the size of a quarter, and it sits centered on the inside of my left wrist. Most people don’t notice it, and those who do don’t mention it. On the rare occasion they do say something, it’s always the same question.

“What does it mean?”

A series of Thai characters, the tattoo spells out two words, rak chiweet. In English: love and life.

Individually, the two words remind me of the things I am most thankful for – the love that surrounds me and the life I have been blessed with.

Together, they are my new mantra.

Love life.

Love whatever comes my way – good or bad – and accept it as my own. Love the good times and the bad times equally, for each moment shapes me into who I am.

And so I bring you this blog …

Rapture [rap-cher] noun : ecstatic joy or delight; joyful ecstasy

Essence [es-uhns] noun : the basic, real, and invariable nature of a thing

Love and Life.
