I have a crazy dream.
Actually, let me stop myself before I even begin. I’d like to withdraw the word ‘crazy’ from that statement.
I have a dream.
It isn’t a crazy dream. Crazy implies unrealistic, foolish, irrational even. This dream is none of those things. A bit out of reach maybe, but not unattainable … not if I really put my mind to it.
So, I have this dream.
I want to be Richard Barrow.
You’re probably thinking one of two things right now. You’re either asking, “who the heck is Richard Barrow?” or you’re thinking, “not irrational, huh?”
Let me explain.
I don’t actually want to be Richard Barrow. I just want his life. See, Richard (I like to think we’re on a first name basis since he reposted one of my Tweets the other day) is a professional blogger … and not just any blogger. He’s a professional freelance food blogger …
… in Thailand.
He has this amazing blog that I catch myself reading whenever I have a free moment. I click through the pages reading articles, studying photographs, being jealous. What I wouldn’t give for the opportunity to eat my way through Thailand and blog about it!
Don’t get me wrong, I love my job. I’ve loved all of my jobs – educator, Peace Corps Volunteer, now Training Specialist. Each profession has fulfilled a different part of my journey. But for me, the ultimate adventure … the dream job … would be food blogging.
So I guess it’s a good thing I happen to have a food blog, huh?
It isn’t anything spectacular, just something I started when I was living in Thailand. I discovered my love for Thai food fairly quickly and spent a good deal of my free time at the markets, food carts, and restaurants trying new dishes. Eventually, I also learned how to cook and that became the passion. I may even go so far as to say it became an obsession. And, being so far from home, I decided to share that love with friends and family through a blog.
By no means is it professional. I don’t even have that many followers. I’d like to though. I’d love for my blog to be popular, to be the place to go for awesome Thai recipes and reviews. And someday, I’d love to make a career of it … though I’m putting the emphasis on ‘someday’. I know it’s a long way off.
Until then, I’ll just keep writing … and cooking … and eating. There’s nothing wrong with that!
